On Sunday, September 13th, the Sonoma League for Historic Preservation will present the PBS documentary Free For All: The Public Library at the Sebastiani Theater. See the preview here:

The film tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today’s librarians who service the public despite working in a contentious age of closures and book bans; meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free, and the doors are open to all. 

On September 16th, the League will present its annual Preservation Excellence award to the Sonoma Valley Woman’s Club for their role in securing the construction financing for our very own Carnegie Library building on the plaza which opened in 1913; and to the City of Sonoma for maintaining the building since its opening. The Woman’s Club is also celebrating their 125 years of service to the community of Sonoma.
